30 pages is really not much to judge a book. So don't look at the stars. For me reading the first chapters of Ironside was just a half-hearted attempt anyway. I didn't like the main characters on first glance. And that decided it for me. I know it is difficult for an author to create a person that is different, because inhuman, and at the same time enabling the reader to evolve a bond with that strange creature and care for his or her fate enough.
